How can adoption be good for my baby and me?

Can I choose a family for my baby?
Yes, the agency has waiting families from a variety of backgrounds that have been screened and approved.
How much contact can I have with my baby after birth and after adoption?
You may have as much contact with your baby at the hospital as you desire. You can choose an open adoption that allows ongoing contact, or you can choose a less open adoption that keeps you informed about your child’s progress through letters and pictures. If you prefer not to have any ongoing contact with the adoptive family, confidential adoption plans are also possible.
How soon after birth can my baby go to the parents I choose?
Many babies are placed with the adoptive family when they are released from the hospital.
Does the birthfather have any rights?
In Colorado the birth father has equal rights. The agency will work with him to relinquish terminate his rights. If the birth father is cooperative the agency will collect his medical and social history. At times only the information you provide will be available.
Can my child find me if he or she wants to search someday?The laws of Colorado determine when and how your child may have access to information in the adoption file. The age of the child must be 21 and the state has set up an intermediary service.
How can I be sure my child will be well cared for?
Adoptive families have completed extensive requirements for approval in this state. Prior to finalizing the adoption, the family social worker has monthly contact with the family in Colorado. These visits are to assure the child’s well being.
Am I responsible for any expenses?
The agency will handle the legal details for you and the birthfather. The agency with the assistance of the adoptive family , is able to assist with some of your financial needs in the last few months of your pregnancy.
